The online home of Maitland Embroiderers Group Incorporated, NSW
In 1987 six ladies commenced the Maitland Embroiderers Group which by 2009 had grown to over a hundred members formed into three groups.
Meetings were twice monthly, originally held in the Cultural Centre, High Street, Maitland. Then in 2001 moving to St James Hall, Morpeth, where two daytime and one night-time groups met. Meetings were then held at the Maitland Adventist Church in East Maitland, from 2008 to 2018.
From February 2019 meetings are held each Monday at Telerah Bowling Club, Maitland.
There is no set curriculum, instead we have class selection days twice a year where members choose lessons they wish to participate in. Workshop Co-ordinators arrange class selection day covering a spectrum of embroidery suitable for beginners, those already progressing and experienced embroiderers.
Tutors bring their expertise and guidance to classes, coming from Sydney and even further afield and some of our members convene classes too. Tutors submit their embroidered item suitable for a class, adhering to copyright laws, for members to choose for participating in the class. The duration of the class depends upon the item being made. Fees may apply.
Exhibition of members embroidery is displayed at the triannual exhibition which is nationally considered one of the best embroidery exhibitions. Embroidery displayed has not been previously shown. Demonstrations of four different styles of embroidery are held for the duration of the exhibition. A well stocked stall of embroidered items is available, where such items can be purchased at a moderate cost. Refreshments are available throughout the days.
